The New Season is Fast Approaching

Friday 2nd March 2018 2:20pm

Maidstone Bowls Club offers a warm welcome to any potential players of all ages.  We are a friendly bunch and while the prime activity of the club is bowling, the social side is not forgotten with various events being held during the winter months. Our extensive clubhouse has a licensed bar.

We are delighted to welcome new members, whether experienced bowlers or anyone ready to give the game a try. For absolute beginners, we can provide the equipment and only require that you wear flat-soled shoes. We have experienced members available to give you an introduction to the game. If you would like to join, visit or try bowls please contact our Secretary on 01622 744185 for further details.

History

Wednesday 1st July 2015 10:08am

In 2006 the club celebrated 100 years.  Founded on the 11th June 1906 when a group of prominent business men in the town met in a room at the 'Fountain' Week Street. Mr Edmund Vaughan, the Mayor of Maidstone at the time and an active member in the formation of the club, became its first President .In the preceding years the club became one of the most respected in the County, a position which has been maintained to this day.The club owns its existing site in Buckland Road and being a private members club relies on voluntary support to achieve its smooth running and to ensure the clubhouse and green are of a standard expected. The management of the club underwent a change in 1999 when the members elected to become a mixed club and with it came the establishment of a joint management committee supported by men's and ladies playing committees. The club is also honoured to be the official headquarters of the Kent Bowling Association. The club aims to promote the sport of bowls at all levels and to this end it is affiliated to all national and governing bodies that in turn provide valuable information and the organisation of national and county competitions. The club organises its own internal competitions and a full fixture programme offering matches against other clubs. The 'Monday Club' meets every week for a friendly 'roll up' and the green remains available for use outside of any organised events.
